As the team prepared to transport the family for veterinary care, one rescuer continued searching the neighborhood to make sure no animal had been overlooked.
That search led to an unforgettable discovery.
On a nearby sidewalk, a three-month-old kitten had found shelter beneath the wing of a falcon. Nearby was another falcon, both birds weakened by the storm and unable to leave immediately.
The unusual scene looked as though the falcon was quietly shielding the frightened kitten until help arrived.
The protective bird remained cautious as rescuers approached, so the team patiently earned its trust while gently encouraging the kitten to come out.
A small treat helped the kitten step forward, allowing rescuers to safely place it in a carrier before carefully helping both falcons as well.
After several days of care at the shelter, the falcons regained their strength. Once the weather improved, they were released in a nearby park, where they quickly returned to the skies.
Meanwhile, the mother cat also recovered well. After a thorough veterinary examination, staff confirmed that she only needed rest and supportive care.
Once reunited, she lovingly cared for all six of her kittens in a quiet nursery at the shelter until they would be ready to find loving forever homes.
The brave little kitten that had sheltered beneath the falcon's wing was also in excellent health. After receiving a clean bill of health from the veterinarian, the kitten was placed with a warm and caring foster family.
